Training

My training supports staff to develop the emotional awareness, psychological understanding, and practical skills needed to care for young people with trauma and complex needs.

Grounded in trauma-informed principles, it focuses on understanding behaviour as communication and responding in calm, consistent, and therapeutic ways.

Sessions are interactive and practical, covering key areas such as emotional regulation, attachment, and relational dynamics. Staff leave with clear strategies, greater confidence, and a shared understanding across the team.

The aim is to reduce reactive responses and burnout, while creating a stable, therapeutic environment where young people feel safe and supported.

All training is grounded in trauma-informed principles and tailored to the unique needs of each home.

 Why This Training Is Important

Residential staff are often managing high emotional demand environments. Without psychological understanding, behaviour can feel personal, overwhelming or frustrating. Trauma-informed training:

  • Increases staff confidence

  • Reduces reactive responses

  • Strengthens team cohesion

  • Promotes consistent therapeutic practice

  • Reduces burnout

  • Improves placement stability

When staff understand the “why” behind behaviour, they are better able to respond calmly, consistently and therapeutically.

 What Makes This Training Different

This training combines psychological depth with practical application. It is not purely theoretical. Staff leave with:

  • Clear, usable strategies

  • A shared language across the team

  • Greater insight into relational patterns

  • Increased emotional awareness in their own practice

Sessions are interactive, reflective and grounded in real residential scenarios. The aim is to strengthen not just individual knowledge, but the therapeutic culture of the home as a whole.

Ultimately, effective training creates environments where young people feel safer, staff feel more equipped, and homes function with greater stability and understanding.
